Bananach

Bananach

The Bánánach (or Bananach) are preternatural, demonic spectres from early Irish folklore, most notably appearing in the Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley). They are described as haunting battlefields, classified alongside bócanachs (ghostly beings), geniti glinni (spirits of the glen), and demna aeoír (sky demons), acting as terrifying omens of slaughter.

An omen of impending chaos, the Bánánach are the spectral, skeletal demons of Irish mythology said to shriek over battlefields. This haunting sculpture embodies the “demons of the air,” blending the
ethereal beauty of flight with the stark reality of the skeletal form. Hand-crafted using real bird and small mammal bones, the Bánánach stands as a powerful memento mori. It is a piece designed for the
serious collector of the macabre—a physical representation of the shifting shadows and supernatural cries that have echoed through Irish folklore for centuries.

Beithir – Real Bone Spirit Sculpture | Irish Mythology Art

The Beithir

The Legend of the Beithir

The Beithir is described as “the largest and most deadly kind of serpent”, or as a dragon (but without certain typical European folklore draconic features such as wings or fiery breath).

Born from the head of a serpent that refused to die, the Beithir is a wingless dragon associated with thunderstorms and the raw power of nature. This piece features a long, sinuous skeletal
frame that mimics a lightning strike frozen in bone.
