Feileacain
Feileacain
In the Irish tongue, Féileacáin means “Butterflies”—the delicate symbols of transformation and the soul. This sculpture explores the haunting
contrast between the fragile beauty of iridescent wings and the stark, enduring reality of the skeletal form. It is a physical meditation on
the cycle of life and death, capturing a moment of frozen metamorphosis. This is not merely an insect specimen; it is a “Creature of the Air”
reimagined in bone, designed for those who find beauty in the delicate and the dark.
In Irish mythology and folklore, butterflies Féileacáin are deeply connected to the soul, transformation, and the afterlife. They were believed to be souls of the deceased—particularly children—passing between this world and the Otherworld. White butterflies were especially revered, and killing them was traditionally considered bad luck.
